Pro Bono Practice

A.        CASA Kane County:  CASA Kane County is a volunteer organization that works to protect the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Kane County court system.  Jim has served in a variety of roles, including:

  • Member of the founding Board of Directors (1989-1996, and 2001-2002);
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors (1995-1996);
  • Recipient of the Doris Hunt Award as outstanding CASA volunteer (1996);
  • Recipient of the first annual CASA Kane County “Pro Bono Attorney” Award (2001);
  • Represented the best interests of dozens of abused and neglected children in many trials and court hearings;
  • Argued a major CASA case before the Illinois Supreme Court (In Re: DS, 198 Ill.2d 309 (2001)); and
  • Member of the CASA Kane County Emeritus Council (2011-current).

B.        REST IN HIS ARMS:  Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Rest in His Arms, which is a volunteer organization providing funeral and burial services to abandoned babies in Northern Illinois.

C.        LAZARUS HOUSE:  Lazarus House is a shelter for homeless men, women and children located in St. Charles, Illinois.  Jim has served on the Board of Directors of Lazarus House since 2012.

D.        THE SALVATION ARMY GOLDEN DINERS NUTRITION PROGRAM:  The Salvation Army Golden Diners Nutrition Program is a “meals on wheels” program for the elderly and disadvantaged in Kane County, Illinois.  Jim served as Chairman of the Project Council from 2001-2003.

E.        PRO BONO ATTORNEY AWARD:  The Kane County Bar Foundation presented Jim with its Pro Bono Award in recognition of his contributions serving the legal needs of Kane County’s indigent population in 2002.
